Very creative and nice finishing work ! No limit to the creations that necessity throws our way.

We came from a smaller teardrop in which the bed area doubled as the dinnette - - talk about a PITA !! So for us, at least for now, having a dinnette area separate from the sleeping area is a real treat. But who knows what the future will bring.

Congrats on finishing a great makeover and thanks for sharing the "works-in-progress" and finished product pics.

Beautiful mods on your RPod. We too have a 177, I might be busy this winter. Keep posting all of the photos, nice to see the work in progress shots. Welcome to the forum.

Very nice...you are the Martha Stewart of campers...and yes...that is a compliment.  I would love to know what you did for curtains.  I am about to rip off the wall those dang noisy blinds.

Insert heavy sigh here.

My wife just saw the dining to bench conversion. She had but one question - when are you going to the hardare store to get started.

Congrats on a really great mod, but my todo list did not appreciate the hit.

So far, I have founf the 177 to be a great platform for multiple modifications.

Anybody have luck getting stain or drawer handles from Forrest River?

I am building drawers into the space above and below the fridge, and would like things to match.

Happy Trails,

I just had to respond to curtains.  Before our first trip, the mini blinds came down and curtains went up.  We are on our second set of curtains, and I keep hoping we don't find some fabric we like better that what we have now.  Rob

Beautiful work    ...and I really appreciate those bottom-up pics of the window boxes, showing the attaching points. I've already built small shelfs using 3" hobby wood and spindle railing sold at Lowes that is almost a perect match for the little railing over the microwave.

I guess I should post some pictures    ...I really like the way our window shelves turned out. I had a little of that railing left over and made a small spice rack and mounted it on the wall to the right of the stove top.

As promised earlier    ...here are the little window shelves I built using spindle railiing I found at Lowe's (which almost matches the railing above the microwave perfectly).

Had a little of the railing left over so I made a little spice rack

This is what I did over the window in the back behind the bathroom.

Slogg, how did you mount / securethe rack you made above the window curtain?

===================================

2 1/2" L brackets. Mounted them out near the ends of the carpeted box close to where they are attached to the inner wall so that they would be more secure. There is a little movement   ...but not enough to cause any problems. To get them off I just have to lift them straight up and off. I thought of attaching them to the walls of the Pod but didn't like that aesthetic. These look more like they are just "sitting there" - - kinda cool. Happy with the way they turned out. Cost about $11-12 per shelf, not including my labor. Well worth it in terms of providing an out-of-the-way place to stick things like lotions, glasses, phone/iPad chargers etc.

CC,

Thanks for the updates. Any chance to get a pic of how you keep up the board filler behind the back cushions? It must be detachable in order to move to the bed support position.

Thanks!

I have an idea for you. If you took a piece of 1x3 and glued and screwed it to the front of your backer board so that it formed a 90 degree angle it might give the front of you backer board enough stiffness so that you would not need stuts and the 1x3 would act as a spacer to keep the board away from the wall in the up position . I used to have a home made trailer and I did that on the front of the bed in it. The only thing I don't know is the span on my bed was only 5 feet. This is crude and not to scale but it gives the idea.

CC, have you ever considered a trip to Wisconsin?  I would be kind enough to allow you to camp at my place for free.  Just a little trade-out of some decorating and mod work, that's all.  Wink

Just kidding, but seriously....I love the mod.  And the Pod looks nice and homie.

CC - We're looking at new tires for our 177. It came with the same Tow Max Power King tires you had. We have about 10,000 miles on them. Tread is fine (only down about 1/3) but I've always felt uncomfortable with them and I've recently read a lot of bad stuff about them.

Looks like you have Goodyear Marathons. I'd be interested to hear how you made the decision to buy those tires since that's one of the tires I've been looking at.

Thanks,
-- Steve

I made an awning for our pod using a lightweight nylon tarp Waterproof and breathable from Campmore and attach it using an old track we had from a canvas awning from a popup we had. I wanted something that was lighter weight and dried faster than the canvas. Not to mention how small I can fold it.

Thanks "Pod Couple" Like I said I love that modification....  I keep the table down and use the bed as a couch most of the time anyway, yours gives you tons of leg room as well...  I may just have to bite the bullet and do this.  I have a trip scheduled for October 18th to the Oregon coast so i will probably make this a winter project ;)  Thanks man, I love my pod.

I just took some 2 x 8"s and cut them in 11-12" pieces. Work well under the stabilizers. Got a 12" piece of 8 x 8 cedar and use that under the hitch post.

CC----Wonderful piece of work, thanks for posting the project and measurements...BUT the question above from river rat still begs to be answered, if you please...fastening the wood.
This forum is soooo helpful and interesting. We have not purchased our R-Pod yet, we just got a Toyota Sienna and have to get it set up for towing before we find and buy one. Hoping to locate a 177 used. Hasn't happened yet.
Thanks to all

Great mods. Wish I was that handy. Something else you might consider: As my wife and I retire at different times (She reads and Emails at the table as I sleep PM, and she sleeps and I read AM) I installed a curtain across the edge of the bed that blocks off light and gives privacy to the one in bed. We love it.
We used the same type bar as you used on the curtains. It extends and wedges itself by twisting the two parts.
As you seem to have a third sleeper, this might work for you.

CC thank you for renewing my love for my rPod I was beginning to get a little bummed out about the whole thing. (see  http://rpodnation.com/warranty-issues-wall-coverings_topic3554_post38900.html#38900 - http://rpodnation.com/warranty-issues-wall-coverings_topic3554_post38900.html#38900 )

So now I'm planning some quick mods as we speak and although my unit is a lot different from yours, I'm rethinking all the possibilities now thanks in a large part to your ideas and your photos! Drapes are #1 for me this year, like the tie backs and I have a sofa right now but that might change (idea to put in a more stable sofa system instead I just have to think about the limits of our time and our abilities)

Must be the sunny day today in spite of the three feet of snow still in our yard that's getting me into the RV mode today!

OH... that's not party stocks.. that's just the byproducts of being a Bourbon snob. And living right in the middle of bourbon central. Some of those are VERY limited release stuff, some not opened yet.. Some open for years, but only tasted for very special occasions..

For instance, on the front left is a bottle of William Larue Weller, only bottled every couple of years, and even in those years, maybe only 7-800 cases for the whole world. Some are only available at the distillery, that kind of thing. Not shown is my favorite.. happened to be out when this picture was taken to tease my brother, Evan Williams 27y.o. only can be bought at the Bourbon Heritage Center, car payment a bottle.. Or "Parker's Distiller's Masterpiece" very NICE car payment a bottle..

Thanks for the info. I may try to see what I can do. I love the dining to living area mod. I don't think I'm that handy. lol We've been out twice this year. We are in Ms. so the winters here aren't much at all.
Went to Buccaneer State Park in Waveland and had a great time. They have a dog beach which is what we were looking for.
