We were thinking about camping at Upstate NY (by Lake Ontario) around the beginning of April. Any thoughts?

Fair Haven is a nice state park and it does have some sites with electric. Good fishing.  It is cold off the lake that time of year. I'm not sure when that park opens Selkirk shores is another state park that has sites with electric. Also good fishing in the area. Reserve America would tell you if those parks are open. There shouldn't be snow then and trout season starts april 1st lots of good trout streams around. Not a lot of campgrounds open that early.

I hate to be picky, but technically the south shore of Lake Ontario is south of Olympia, Washington - in fact its more in line with Northern California! So, unless you're coming from somewhere else you'd actually be going DOWN to upstate NY Smile

Hi Ken,

My name is Randy (AKA-Dockguy)and live in Canton, NY. I rent a campsite at Willows on the Lake in Henderson near Watertown, NY. The water is still cold on Lake Ontario at this time, but the fishing is great ! Many of the campsite in the North Country (Adirondacks) do not have services so check ahead in regards to electric, sewage, and water lines for your r-pod. I travel to KOA's often and also check on Woodall's for campsites whic fit your needs.   Hope this helps...

Have Fun !

Sounds great! I looked at that campsite and it looks nice. We're staying at Drum when we get there, for we need to stay for about a month. I will visit your campsite though. As far as dry camping goes, we don't need services. We have 100 gal fresh tank and and 35 gal of gas for the onboard onan generator, so it'll last us a while if we conserve.

We've been spoiled camping at private parks and pay nothing. Sometimes it's hard to come out of that mentality and pay someone $40/night to camp, but can't have memberships for everywhere.

Thanks for the info! We're looking forward to camping out east and having to "winterize" in the winter.
