There seems to be a new style of R-pod available;

http://www.wegocamping.com/rv/forestriver/traveltrailer/1739/Forest_River_R-pod_HRE_RP-172T

It includes;
  • New Graphics
  • Scissor Style Stabilizer Jacks
  • Digital A/C Thermostat
  • Kitchen Sink Cover
  • Sink in Bathroom
  • Upgraded Bath Organizer
  • E-Z Glide Table
  • Black Tank Flush
  • Rear Spoiler w/ LED lights
  • New & Improved R-Dome
  • New Tent Fabric
  • Hanging Hooks on both sides of bath door
  • Diamond Plate Rock Protection
  • Axle Riser Elevation Kit
  • X-treme 15" Tires w/ Aluminum Rims
  • I like the look of it although I doubt those knobby tires would help mileage. Wink

    Judging by the number of other R-pods in the background (picture 3), I'm going to guess these photo's were taken at the Forest River factory.

    The website says the status of the unit is "on order". I suppose that is why they only have exterior pictures. I wonder if there is additional protection built on the underside.

    I really like the diamond plate on the front. I'm curious about the 'spoiler'. Would be nice to see additional angles of this rig.

    Diamond plate back behind the wheels in the wheelwells, too.

    Speaking of wheels, I don't see the advantage of the "off-road" tires.

    Yes there is a new one for 2011.
    I was negotiating the purchase of one with Jeff Couch and was told about the "upgraded" changes that sounded good to me including the ones you mentioned and  blackwater flush mechanism. THe increase in price came to $300 and I think the POD is better for the changes from the sound of them.
    We will pick ours up next FridaySmile

       Uphillracer, for only $300 more it sounds like a wise choice to get the Hood River Edition I thought it would cost more. I like the looks of the HRE better. Congradulations on your new Pod!    David and Danette

    I spoke with my dealer today. We won't have the diamond front or the off-road tires. He stated that was a market test in the West only for about 100-150 units to be sold West Coast.
    The rest of the upgrades we'll get. I especially welcome the black water flush Smile
    Thanks all.

    Fact:  The R-pod HRE is built out of the Dallas, OR plant and will be sold only in the Western Markets.  The product is designed to have a more aggressive look and will come standard with the Diamond Plate rock protection, Axle Riser Kit and Mudster tires.  Call a western dealer for more details.

    How can there be a sink in the bathroom and stay the same length? Maybe they can make a Toy Hauler edition as well...would be cool.

    Sounds like a little discrimination against us Easterners!!  Oh well, I already have a 172 that I love. By the way, after looking at the HRE, it does not look like Mudster tires and Axle Riser Kit would help much in going off road.  The axle is still low.  Of course, I am not an "off road" kind of camper so how would I know????

    The term "axle riser" is a bit of a misnomer. The axle riser does not raise the axle at all. It raises the pod an extra 4" or so above the axle.

    As the assumption that the graphic of your R-Pod is accurate, how did you get that nifty port window in the door? Standard issue for that model?  I'm picking up my 2011 172 in a few weeks and sure wish that it had more light in the front end of the unit.

    If you're talking to me, my husband installed it for me. We ordered the window from Ebay. The first hole was the hardest! I love it. You can't see  in but can see out. It's like a great big peephole. And it does let light in.

    We do not have the round window but have a window that would be in an rv door.  Our dealer checked out the door to see if it would be ok to put one in.  They did almost a year ago, and we have been very happy with it.
