OK- finally had time to post some of the mods we have been working on this winter. First- the 19 inch TV/DVD combo was an easy mount by adding a piece of plywood into the microwave cabinet to support the swivel mount. The hard part was finding the right mount that would easily come off for travel. Here it is before we put the front panel back over the microwave:

Here is the bracket that stays on the wall, how it attaches to the TV and the box it came in:

And here is the view from the side:

We will run the elecric on an extension cord and when we hook up to cable, we pass the cable cord through the slide which is very handy.

We changed out the "ironing board" table legs to RV pedestal table legs- easy off to convert the table to a bed. We drilled them into a piece of plywood covered with carpet so the table moves easily (stole that idea from someone!). While we usually keep the bed made up full time, we do occasionally use it as a dinette but hated the legs it came with. On the left you can see our 3 inch memory foam mattress with all of the bedding on it just rolled up and away to the side.

Speaking of table- I LOVE my low profile sofa table purchased at Pier One:

Also for extra kitchen counter space here is a cutting board purchased from camping world that fits perfectly and the Dometic cover made for our burners. We had to mount it by drilling two holes in the rear, but it then flips up to act as a back splash:

And here are the curtains- 2 pairs of kitchen tiers purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond (we left the miniblinds in all areas but the 'bedroom'.

And finally the 4 tier bathroom organizer on a spring loaded pole purchased at WalMart (it is not easy taking pictures in that bathroom!). Can't tell from the picture, but it really is out of the way even when sitting on the throne.

Other mods finished this winter that others have posted pictures of: Spare tire moved to tongue, bike rack to rear, Battery cut-off, electric hot-water heater toggle switch to inside.

Now, we just need spring to get here!!!

Great job.  We have the same table leg only we have the tripod for the bottom.  It doesn't attach to the floor so it is easy to pick up and move outdoors.  Thanks for sharing.

OMG, I just LOVE MODS!  I really like all of those but the stove cover and the low profile table is great!  I'm going to have to check out our local Pier One.
I saw the bathroom organizer in Walmart last month... Its on the list of things to get in the spring.

I have taken down the "thingys" on top of the windows, but to take down the mini-blinds.  I made curtains, and installed curtain rods in the "thingys" and put them back up.  Just two small screws on each end holds them up.  But in our pod the mini blinds brackets aren't on the end of the blinds, and are silver metal latching type affairs.  Rob

Oh my.  Someone's feelings will be hurt.  I am sure FR paid an interior designer big bucks to come up with those little babies! LOL

That's good stuff, Tusten!  Thanks for sharing.  I have bought a 19" LCD, but have not figured out how/where to mount it yet.  I like the cutting board & burner cover and may have to check at CW.

The reason I don't like the fixed valance (if that's the right term) is that it gives the Pod a "country" type look.  I'm pretty much a minimalist with decor but do want to add some colorful pillows and seat covers for the dinette.  What I have in mind definitely wouldn't blend with those original patterns and color.  Wish we had the saffron.  That I kind of like.  Surprise!  I like tropical themes.  Embarrassed
Eventually we want to bring our dog along so need washable seat covers.

WE MADE USE OF THE VALANCES.  MY BIG PROBLEM WAS STORAGE FOR CLOTHES. I TOOK A WIRE CLOSET SHELVE AND HAD IT CUT DOWN THEN I MOUNTED IT ON THE TOP OF THE VALANCES.  I TOOK THE SMALL COMMAND HOOKS AND USED THEM ON THE SIDE TOWARD THE FRONT TO STABILIZE  IT.  I THEN MADE A CURTAIN TO HIDE THE SHELF AND USED A SPRING ROD TO PUT THE CURTAIN ON.  I WILL PUT A WIRE COMMAND HOOK TO SUPPORT THE MIDDLE OF THE ROD.   THE ONLY PROBLEM WE ARE HAVING IS FINDING A WAY TO KEEP THE ROD FROM SLIDING ON THE WALL BECAUSE IT IS SLIPPERY.  PROBABLY WILL USE TWO WAY TAP ON THE ENDS.  THIS CAN ALL BE REMOVED WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE TO THE ORIGINAL CONDITION.  WE HAVE A 171.  WHEN THE SNOW LEAVES I WILL POST PICTURES.

dragon_fly...I can't wait to see your pictures.  I had thought that it could be possible to use the valences to hold up a small shelf.

Do your shelves have raised edges to keep things from falling off when you travel or do you just remove anything up there?

We also have a 171 and my wife has been talking about the need to add shelving.  I will be very interested in your pictures and any detail for mounting them you can share.

Thanks.

IMHO the valances could be replaced with a small shelf unit (w/edges) made from a light weight wood which could also include a rod underneath to facilitate a curtain. If not to elaborate, this "shelf - curtain rod" combo could be used on most of the windows. Using the existing valance screw holes may be an option if the shelf-rod isnt to large or heavy. I am sort of leary about screwing in things on the walls of the r-Pod. But with some investigation, making new holes could be an option.

Hi all-

Thanks for the kind words about our mods. It's really fun to think of ways to make the pod your home-away-from-home.

No- the stove cover is not from Camping World- sorry, I should have included it in the info. I got it from PPL Motor Homes on line- I also think I referred to it as Dometic- it is actually Suburban brand. It comes in Black, White or Stainless- obviously we got the black. They were great to work with- the first one they sent was slightly dented, so they sent a replacement and didn't even want the first one sent back! I spoke to them before I ordered and they checked to make sure it is specifically made for our model of 2 burner drop-in cooktops. A bit pricey at over $40, but definitely gives it a professional look. My honest opinion is that with so little counter space, FR should just include it with the rpod.

Here is the link:   http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-stoves/suburban-dropin-cover.htm - http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-stoves/suburban-dropin-cover.htm

Forget the picture of the "slide-in" cooktop at the top of the page. That is obviously not ours and made it a bit confusing which is why I called them to confirm. The picture of the cover IS for our unit.

Hmmm- that lead to about a 5 minute discussion until John just went out with a magnet and it stuck, thus ruling out my guess that it is aluminum. The magnet test revealed it to be steel with a hard plastic edge in front that forms the lift "handle". Sorry I can't be more specific!

I too have the burner cover and really like it.  I did not attach it to the countertop.  We took of the hinge and modified it a bit ( We--my husband) so that it would sit level.  The only reason that I did not want to attach it to the counter was that I did not want to lose access to the small space behind the stove when I cook.  I put things that I may need back there.   If anyone wants to know what the modification is, I will ask Craig when (if) he gets home from work.   Can't get into the pod right now as we are getting 2 to 3 feet of snow right now.

I REALLY like the tv on the microwave wall and that you can take it down when you put the slide in. I also have a 174 and the tv just isn't in the right place when you're using the dinette for a bed. Did you just leave the original tv in there? I think I would. I think that mod is on my list. I had already gotten the sink cover from CW and love it. I've just been putting a cutting board on the stove when I need more counter space. The table legs are an issue with me. I would just as soon leave the table down as fight with it to put the legs down or up. I wish I could attach the table to the wall with one of those swing arm thingies like you sometimes see in the newer rv's. NO legs would be great for me.

I believe we are removing the small TV unit that came w/Astro due to the fact that we are going to remove the cabinet above the bed. Not sure what we'll do with it.
We got a Sat-Go TV & we hope with the sink cover and the burner cover there will be sufficent area to set the TV. This is all speculation due to the fact that we don't have access to Astro.
The Mount is an excellent Idea !!! Good to see pics of it being successful !!!

The table that came with the Pods, I believe, is to heavy to work it off a hinge, as opposed to operating it with the Legs it comes with.
A lighter table would be advised. I believe that someone has done that kind of mod. You'd have to search the posts for "table Mod" or something like that. If I find the thread I'll post it.

That table really is a mother, but I don't think you could go with something lighter if using it as a queen bed support. Visions of both of us falling through the bed, butts on floor at 3am is FAR from a pretty sight LOL
We did choose to leave the entertainment cabinet and small TV where it was. I know some have found they hit their head on it, but it never bothered me. I actually use it as a "night stand" for easy access to items like chap stick, asthma inhaler, and even the remote control- since I sleep against the wall and can't reach the pouches (which lose smaller items anyway). We also didn't want to deal with covering holes after taking it down, and John thought the (dare I say it!) resale value would hold better with it where it is.....not that we have ANY plans to ever sell it, but it never hurts to plan ahead!

Ted- if you are planning to place a receiver in your kitchen area- the slide makes a wonderful pass-through for a cable from the satellite. That is how we get the cable in to our new TV so we don't have to run a line all the way from the jack in the entertainment cabinet.

Sorry, Richard- didn't see your original question until now. I got it at Sears, but glad you found it at Office Depot. Good luck- we just got back from 4 nights out and it worked great. Word of advise- plan better than we did for the height you want the mount to be- we first had it too high as we adjusted it for standing- then realized we will mainly be watching from the couch or bed or dinette (sitting) so it worked best to mount it as low on the microwave cabinet as possible. What you see in the picture is actually our second (lower) placement.
