Hi All
I am the proud new owner of a 2011 R pod 173. I looked at two R-pods and two MPG's before I chose this one. this is my first store bought trailer and it replaces a home build tiny trailer.  My tow vehicle is a 2009 Jeep Liberty. It came down to a 2009 175 and this one. This one won out because I wanted both a couch that could be used as a bed and a dinette. The 175 had a queen bed instead of a dinette and the slide out couch on the 175 is less than 5 feet long so it could not be used as an adult bed. So it was the 173.

We have only taken it out once on a shakedown trip. It was a good thing we did because the ac gave us some issues. This is a used trailer and came with a limited warranty that would have been out if I discovered the problem with the AC in the spring.

I am looking forward to having a lot of fun with this trailer

Below is a picture of my trailer

Happy podding everyone
Sean

Glad to have you along podding with everyone Sean.

I'm glad you got the opportunity to get a shakedown trip and catch that AC issue you mentioned.

Cannot wait to hear stories about your camping adventures.

And as always, I love seeing more Jeeps out there with their Pods!

I'm also comparing the MPG to Rpod. I've noticed that MPG's are a little less expensive. Amenities and build quality seem similar. Why did u choose the Rpod over the MPG?

I was looking at used units and my first choice was a MPG 184 but while I was trying to decide the dealer sold it to someone else. It is a good thing though because we realized later that the while the couch folded down into a bed it was only about 5 feet long so it was not suitable as a bed for most adults. We wanted two adult beds. Also the MPG's are heavier for the most part and my poor Jeep Liberty struggles on the hills a little now with my rpod 173.

Sean - congratulations on your new R-Pod!!  Does the 173 feel cramped without the slide?  (as opposed to, say, the 175 model with sofa-slide)  I'm still trying to decide which model is best for us.
I like the length of the 173 sofa.

Don't know if you knew, but the MPG's will no longer be made.

It is tight. We we were going to buy the 175 but we absolutely had to have two adult length beds and there was no way to do that in the 175. The 177 would have been a good choice but my wife wanted a couch. So we got the 173. At the end of the day we got an rdome with ours and I do almost everything but sleep outside.

Welcome Sean to the group! I also have a 173 and bought mine for the same reasons you bought yours. I like the idea of having a couch and a bed/dinette. Most of the time it is just me and my dog, but if I take another person, they have the couch. So it has worked out really well. Happy Podding!

We've had our 173 since March 2009 and have now experienced three successful camping seasons. While winterizing the other day, we reflected a bit on our many wonderful experiences be they in National Parks, State Parks, or KOA type campgrounds.  We've also run the course with full hook-ups, electric only and just plain old dry camping.  All in all, we've been very pleased with the 173, which seems to fit the two of us quite well. The most important thing we learned early on was that if we wanted all the amenities and space of a 2000 ft2 home, then we should have just stayed home.  With that perspective, we always pack light and work within the limits of what our r.pod has to offer. Hopefully, you come to enjoy your r.pod experiences just as well.  Joe

I too am comparing the Rpod vs MPG. Why did you choose Rpod?

I was going to purchase the MPG but the dealer sold the unit I wanted before I decided. I am glad I went the the R-pod though because the R-pods are lighter and my TV can just barely tow the R-pod and extra 500 lbs trailer weight and at least 100 lbs tongue weight would have been difficult for me to tow. Even though Jeep says it will tow it.
