I thought maybe people would like a place to ask for IDEAS of mods. For instance, I notice that some people have some shelving units on the wall of their sick/stove area. However, in the 177, there is a big window back there with blinds that get in the way.
This is a picture of the 177 kitchen area
The blinds are definitely going away. I would like to put something in front of the window that is shelf-like...I also want to still be able to open and close the window...so, I suppose the shelf might be something I just put out when we are in the pod and then it gets packed away...
Unless someone else has an idea......I think ultimately, I would like something we could attach to the back wall...in front of the window....but that I can still reach my hand in and be able to open and close the window...
I need ideas!

I am putting two removable shelves in the sleeping area of my 171; reason being the shelves will over-hang close to the bed and so I will need to remove them when I make the bed. I haven’t done this mod yet so I don’t have any pictures but I’m pretty sure this is the route I’m going to take. A removable shelf might solve your issue as well; this would leave you with the option of sometimes not having the shelf in place. I also have something that I would like to know and that is how do you fasten shelves to the wall of the pod. I understand fastening a shelf to the bathroom wall or appliance cabinet but what about the pods wall itself, like you, Pie Pod, are suggesting putting a shelf or something in front of the window, and I assume it‘s going to be fastened to the outside wall; how would you fasten that to that outside wall? Would you use screws or glue to fasten something that might have a little weight to it? Thanks! |

This may be a good place to try the hooks that attach on the surface of the wall.
Thus (perhaps) the shelving could attach to the hooks, possibly in a secure manner.
I believe that the "wire" shelves could facilitate the hooks better than a solid construction.
Just a thought. I'm sure alot of the "modders" dread the idea of putting screws into inside walls of the Pod. But this particular window area of our Pod could be used for kitchen organization.
It'll be interesting to see what develops.

Pie Pod-
It looks like from your picture that a safe area for mounting shelves in the 177 would actually be to the right of the window. That looks like it is not an exterior wall but rather a cabinet area for the refrigerator/microwave? You could easily do what I did and remove the microwave and place a piece of plywood in there to reinforce screws for shelves. We didn't even mount the plywood in any way- it is just held in place by the screws for our TV mount. And since your MW cabinet is part of the slide and not next to the slide (like in the 174/175), you wouldn't even have to take them down for travel.
It looks like you even have an electric outlet on that wall. I might even mount an under-cabinet coffee maker there to have one less thing on the counter.

Yes Tusten , I believe your correct !!
That would take care of the right side of the area indeed ...
There will be some type of shelfs in-front of the window and to the left as well.

That is exactly why I started this thread...to get ideas! Here is some better pictures of the sink area....Notice the window takes up a huge area!
I love the idea of a cofee maker under the counter....although, we do tend to use the camping percolator for coffee....we either use the stove in the Pod or the Coleman stove outside...I love percolated coffee!!!

Here is something we found at Bed Bath that we use in our home.
www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=16273490 I used these wire rakes from Walmart in Rbug. I tried to find them on line but could only find these, which will do the same. www.walmart.com/ip/Whitmor-Large-Grid-Stacking-Shelf-White/5606747 (I tried the link but was having problems with it...sorry) ![]() I was able to attach these to the wall using the 3M command hooks, which makes them stay put while in transit. You could try using the floating shelves too on the side walls. That would keep the window free. Hope this helps. |

Here is an idea on how to cover the cook top when it is not in use and obtained more counter space.
![]() We liked the idea of a metal cover in this application and found a 15 x 20 inch cookie sheet from Kohls. It was hard to find one large enough to fit the stove and sturdy enough when using it as a counter top. ![]() The pan liner was a feature we added to the top of the cookie sheet. ![]() The feet are 1/2 inch PVC couplers with a rubber hose washer attached to the bottom. The feet and washers were glued on with clear silicone seal. With the feet at each corner it even stays in place while on the road. ![]() This is a great place for the coffee in the morning and the cover works great as a splatter shield when using the cook top. |

I like it! Great job! I was thinking about getting the cover that fits the stove but then a part of me likes the idea of making something unique...I like your solution! Welcome to the forum!
