Kudos to "no pull" harnesses

   My dogs only walk on leash when camping so they are "untrained".  My golden is a constant puller. The lab/mix is a jerker when he sees a squirrel.  By the time I get home, my shoulders are sore and I'm sure their necks are too.  This time, the Golden got so red that it looked like she was losing some hair around her neck.  I went to Petco and got a "Halti Harness" and it was like magic!  Petsmart carries "Easy Walk" so I had to go get one for the other dog and it too was wonderful.  I think I might like the Halti better only because it seemed to lay better where they include an attachment to hook the harness to the dog's collar.  I used a little clip to do the same for the Easy Walk.  So these are worth the money!  (Petco is generally a bit more expensive that Petsmart, I think so the Halti was more than the Easy Walk, maybe $35)

	So glad you switched to a harness. A dog with the leash attached to their collar that pulls when they walk, can really injure their throats. Our Bichon, Abby, really doesn't like me putting on her very soft harness but once it's on she's fine.

	I had used harnesses before but they could still pull. For some reason, they don't with these.

	I have used a "gentle leader" with my 100 lb small horse since she was a puppy. She quickly figured out how to put her nose down and pull through it if she really wanted to go somewhere, she is a determined thing, however it does keep her nicely under control for the most part along with basic obedience. I will say that it worked amazingly well with every other dog I have used it on. She thought a harness was incentive to go faster

	Nothing works on Boon. The no pull harnesses just make him pull harder, resulting in pain for him. He doesn't care. The Gentle Leader causes him to walk down the road "reverse sneezing". (It's a beagle thing.) The harness that hooks in the front and is supposed to turn him around if he pulls didn't do a darned thing. We've spent tons of money on gadgets for this dog. Then one day a woman at the dog park showed up a trick taught to her by one of the dog handlers at the prison where she works. It's like a magic charm. http://dextersdays.com/2011/07/the-leash-trick/ I worry that it will chafe underneath him, so have a soft braided leash that we use when we're going to be doing this.

	Very clever idea. Not needed with our 10 lb. mini-dachshund but certainly for larger dogs that may be tough to handle. We finally changed from a collar around the neck to a harness. All more comfortable. She does sometimes want to get ahead of us but controlling her now does not leave her choking. Thanks for the idea. Safe Travels.

	I sent that link to a friend with a beagle who pulls. I don't have the kind of needed leash to try it here but think it looks interesting. Abby (the retriever) does better with the Halti (I got an Easy Walk for the other dog and like the Halti better) but if I hook the leash to the ring on top of her back instead of in front of her chest, she is back to pulling. And just what you said about Boon, she pretty much just doesn't react to pain. I know her neck must feel bad; it's raw. I'm doing ointments, etc but she doesn't seem to let up though the Halti helped tremendously.

	I have two Carolina Dogs or American dingo, The black and Tan name Freyja pulled when we first go her, weight at 68 pounds. Put a no pull harness on her along with the bungee type leash. Got both on Amazon. The other is a 68 pounds buff color CD he is on the gentle leader in learning now. He's not happy but is manageable to walk now instead of pulling me. i chose the gentle leader for him due to getting over heart worms from the rescue foster. The chest harness made him cough by pulling on his chest. Both have been camping in our R 180, what an experience. 	I use Gentle Leaders on my two labs, and they work great. They’ve gotta be pretty tight to work though. I’ve been stopped several times on hiking trails by curious folks, or those familiar with the Leaders that give the thumbs up when they see my sweet obedient dogs.
