I recently winterized my 172 following posts and manual  for winterizing. I thought I did everything correct. When I checked my hot water heater the other day after first freeze the plug had ice on it. About a cup of water rain out of it. Has anybody ever had this problem before? I hope I didn't do any damage to hot water heater and looking for any suggestions. I didn't run anti-freeze through the heater but everywhere else. I would like to put my plug back in so it doesn't rust. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

If only a cup or so of water ran out of it you are fine.  As long as it is not full there is more than enough room in that tank for the expansion of the remaining water that is hard to completely drain from the hot water heater.
