2015 r179 furnace trouble. Fires up runs 10-15 min, then shuts off. On the road traveling from Alaska to Texas for winter. In Toad River, BC. right now. Wifi intermittent....would like to get it up tonight. After 10 min run it will not restart.

My kneejerk would be thermostat from what you provided. Start sequence is like:1. Thermostat contacts close, 2. The fan starts, 3. The air flow switch inside the furnace closes, 4. The gas valve opens, 5. The spark igniter fires, 6. The flame sensor verifies gas ignition and you have heat. Off sequence begins with thermostat contacts open. Monitoring the sequence may assist. But in both cases starts with thermostat contacts.

BTW - Sail Switches seem to be a common problem. Easy to look at.
The sail switch activates an electronic air cleaner, a humidifier, or other equipment in response to airflow from the system fan. It is located on the backside of the furnace (from the outside) take off the face plate on the floor inside the pod, the switch will have 2 spade connectors attached and also a 'paddle' for lack of a better term that moves up and down to activate the switch.

Some advice - if the furnace fan starts the thermostat is working. If fan runs but furnace does not ignite - sail switch issues.

"runs for 10 minutes".. the blower runs, or it makes heat? 2 different things. If the blower is running, but it isn't making heat, either the sail switch, or propane issue. If it makes heat for 10 minutes, then shuts off, thermostat issue. If it's the first, if it's shutting off because it isn't getting propane, the thermostat will have to be set to off, then back on, before it will attempt to light again.
If it's the second, check the sail switch, operate it with your finger a few times to make sure it isn't sticky with dust etc, and/or purge the gas lines by lighting stove burners. |
