So far we have added a mirror to the back of the bath door, magnetic/white board above controls by main door, changed to a much better mattress, and today added a 12v outlet and modified the street side dinette bench to gain some storage space..
I am slowly rebuilding this thread after Photobucket destroyed it.. |

So ...you cut the box lid in half or was it already in 2 pieces?

What kind of mattress? Where did you get it and how much, if I may ask?

We got the mattress from Camping World, this one:
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/product/eurotop-innerspring-mattresses/2571 They had $5 shipping, it was $337 to the door when we bought it three weeks ago. It's a little higher now I see. It beats the stock mattress by about 1000%. |

Cut it in half, added a cross piece, two cleats to the floor, secured a "wall" to the cross piece and cleats, added hinge and finger hole to the right hand piece of lid. |

Smart ...very smart. We all know storage is at a premium in smaller campers. Will probably copy your design.

Here's another space generator. I was under all the cabinets in our 171 looking for a possible water leak source. I pulled out the panels the factory places in front of the utility spaces. When I put them back, I pushed them up against the wires etc, I gained 6 inches under the refrigerator and two or three under/ behind the center cabinet and door. The only thing I could figure out for the leak was high pressure on the input from the camp water system putting to much on a connection.

I saw there may be some to be gained under there when I was looking under it to get a general idea about placement of the outside shower box. A 177 already has a storage nook under the fridge, thats where dog bowls and chow go..
But under the sink and stove top, in the slide there are two panels, and a small "box" could possibly be added there.. about your leak.. do you use a water pressure regulator? 'tis a good idea... We got to "dry camp" after some unknown pressure level disintegrated a couple lines in our all original (at the time) 30y.o. Airstream. |
