This park is along the east side of Michigan's thumb, almost at the very bottom of Lake Huron where the St. Clair River feeds into it. It's only a short walk to a sandy beach with a buoyed swim area. Or, if you don't want to swim, you can sit on the beach and watch the freighter traffic as it traverses the entrance to the river. Sites are pretty large for a state park, you could almost make 3 normal sites out of every 2 sites at this park. The outer perimeter gives you privacy behind, or you if you have a group, you can get sites together in the middle. The bathhouses look like they're brand new with excellent showers. Like most MI state parks, there's 30A electricity only at the sites, fresh water tanks are filled from the potable water tower at the dump station on your way in.
The camp store is pretty well equipped with the usual stuff: misc camping gear, a few grocery items, ice, and firewood. Plus ice cream. About 10 minutes south of the park along the main highway are all the amenities you'd ever need: big box stores like Wal Mart, Meijers, Best Buy, etc. Chain restaurants, auto repair shops, and quite a few fancy houses on the east side of the road along the lakeshore. Plus lots of places to buy ice cream. About 10 minutes north is the town of Lexington, with lots of unique shops, a marina, and restaurants and pubs. Plus lots of places to buy ice cream. If you're in the mood for a drive you can follow M-25 north and go through all the little harbor towns along the lakeshore, with Port Austin at the very tip of the thumb. They have places to buy ice cream there too.

Mark, did you say ICE CREAM????? My favorite food in the world. We are packing and will be there tomorrow for ice cream.
Seriously, thanks for the campground review. I wish others would do so.
