Maintenance Issues, Tips and Tricks : Prodigy P2 Brake Cont /Pod Brakes

    Author: Terrier-Pod
Subject: Prodigy P2 Brake Cont /Pod Brakes
Posted: 07 Sep 2010 at 12:22am

Hello all.... Just had Prodigy P2 brake controller installed and it works great for two month old 2010 RP 174! However, my question is: When I apply the Rpod brakes manuallly via controller lever when approaching a stop (slowly) it appears that one of the Pod electric brakes is not braking smoothly as it transmits a feeling of a warped rotor realizing that the pod has drum brakes of course. The unit stops just fine with no noise, etc. I would equate the feeling to one of the pads inside not catching the drum or being out of synch, etc. The gentle "shutter" feeling only appears during the last few seconds before the pod stops also appearing without using the manual lever. Could it be a bad pad or perhaps the inside of the drum needs resurfacing? Also recall hearing about a brake-in period - realizing that may be an issue. I have only driven about 130 miles after a short trip this weekend. Ii noticed the "warped" feeling the very first time I activated the controller via the Prodigy instructions within a school parking lot. Any info would be appreciated. I may just have to bring the pod over to the prodigy installer as they are trailer specialists. Thanks, Ron

I do not have experience with any other models - but I can tell you this unit is very easy to use with excellent build quality. I would most definitely recommend the controller when towing our POD's. You will immediately feel the gentle pull from the pod brakes which is a relief especially in traffic or fighting traffic lights or stop signs.

I would strongly recommend the Tekonsha brand! Make sure your installer is factory authorized or has experience Installing!

Good luck !

Ron W.
